October 27, 2010: Storming the Heavens - exhibition of the anti-religious posters of the Soviet times in the Museum of the History of the Religion
The State Museum of History of Religion presents an exhibition "Storming the Heavens", dedicated to the history of the Soviet anticlerical graphics from the period of 1910 1970. The contents of the exhibition are the best examples of the Soviet propaganda posters. In addition, the exhibition will feature the popular magazines, toys and many other items that reveal the techniques and methods of anti-religious propaganda of the Soviet state. Just to recall: after the October Revolution of 1917 the Bolshevik's Party had come to power and started with the complete destruction of the old order in Russia. This process had included an active fight, waged against religion and the Church. In the first years after the revolution, anti-religious propaganda was directed primarily against the Orthodox Church, since Orthodoxy was the state religion in the Russian Empire and an ideological pillar of the Russian monarchy. Later, virtually all religious organizations, regardless of their attitude towards the Soviet government, were at the focus of attention of the anti-religious fighters of USSR. The first Soviet propaganda posters had appeared already in 1918. Many talented artists and poets had worked on it's creation. Over some time, a poster had prooved to be the one of the most effective means of ideological influence on the masses in the USSR. The popularity of the poster as a critical campaign work contributed to their relative cheapness, ease of production, accessibility of the artistic language, as well as the ability to respond quickly to the current events. This is one of the first exhibitions, devoted to this genre and special theme.

October 21, 2010: Opera ''Prince Igor'' in the Mikhailovsky Theater
The opera "Prince Igor" by Alexander Borodin is a unique phenomenon of the Russian opera. The search for the determination and the meaning of the "Russianness" in art, and the revival of interest to the topic of patriotism has defined the essence of this famous work. The story of this monumental opera is based on a jewel of the Old Russian literature - "The Lay of the Host of Igor". The text and music of the opera were written for 18 years, and were completed after the death of the composer, by N.A. Rimsky-Korsakov and A.K. Glazunov. The performance of the opera is split by the famous "Polovtsians Dances" - a bright vocal and choreographic picture, which had become a legend long ago. For the premiere performance of "Prince Igor" in 1890, the spirit of the wild dances of the Polovtsians was embodied by the choreographer Lev Ivanov. In 1909, for the "Russian Seasons" in Paris, the famous russian balletmeister Michel Fokine had created his own version of the dances. And only at the Mikhailovsky Theatre, the "Polovtsian Dances" are performed in a unique choreography by the Kasyan Goleizovsky (1892 - 1970).
