This tour package is dedicated to the founder of the Saint-Petersburg city - the progressive Russian Tsar Peter the Great. Even having passed through three hundreds years of a quite stormy historical events, the city had preserved the memories of it's arch-founder. Log Cabin of Peter the Great was the first building in the new city. Made of lumber in the year 1703, it was stylized to look like a brick building. Empress Catherine I was the first of many tsars, who gave an order to save and preserve this house for future generations. Peter and Paul Fortress was built to protect the city, and block the Neva river for the enemies warships, however, it has never been participating in any battles. The Cathedral of Peter and Paul, located inside the fortress is keeping the tombs of many russian emperors and members of the imperial family. Winter Palace of Peter the Great is the building within the complex of the State Hermitage museum. Several years ago, it was discovered, that a part of Hermitage is containing a much older walls, that remember Peter the Great. The last point of the visit is the Menshikov Palace - it was owned by the Peter's closest friend and supporter - Alexander Menshikov.
Saint-Petersburg, as a capital city of Russia and the second main important city in the further times, was also an important religious center. At the present time, the city counts ten cathedrals and over 150 Orthodox churches. Many of them are the true architectural masterpieces. St. Petersburg takes a significant place in the works of Dostoevsky. The city is related to many memories and feelings of the writer. St. Petersburg seemed gloomy and cold to Dostoevsky. Dostoevsky heroes of "Poor People", "White Nights", "Crime and Punishment" are derived from this environment. The Dostoyevsky's cityscape has a great artistic load. The city landscape is not only experience, but also the landscape of expression. It is intrinsically linked to portray human world, and stresses the sense of hopelessness experienced by the heroes of Dostoevsky's works.
